Short reviews of kdramas I've watched - part 4

Image
Business proposal Very popular series this year. Classic kdrama trope but made hilarious thanks to the lead characters. The second lead pair is also cute, especially the 2ML. The 1ML looks like a junior version of Park Seo-joon tbh, and his kdrama obsessed grandpa is hilarious too. S2 is coming thanks to how much it appealed to the public. School 2017 One of the very cute Kdramas I've watched. Unlike other series which had high school romance, this one was neat. Yes there are the usual elements of rivalry, frenemies, rich boy, poor girl, but still it was engaging and entertaining. Give it a watch if you want to see Business Proposal lead during her younger days, loved her in both.  Reply 1988 This series deserves a separate blog but since I did not note down the finer points I am writing a very short review here. It was boring at first, 3 episodes later, you are thoroughly enjoying each and every aspect of the series. Took me back to my childhood tbh. Hye-ri, I loved her thro...

Alchemy of Souls S1&S2 - Must Must Watch - Review!

Image
Well, one of the best series of 2022 - lots of magic and action. It took me a while, at least till episode 4 of S1 to understand who each of the names corresponded to, what alchemy of souls meant, why someone does it, what or who mages are, and all that jazz. Till the 4th episode, things go slow but once you start understanding things, there's no looking back. Jang Uk played by Lee Jae-wook is fantastic, he is the black sheep in the family and has no powers or skills but with the help of his maid Mu Deok-i, he goes on a quick learner mode and picks up most of the skills that take years to master. He is also lucky in many ways and seems like the stars are aligning to help him out. Loved the chemistry between all the stars, Mu Deok-i played by Jung So-min whom I first saw in Because It Is My First Life, is pretty and smart as ever. The story gets interesting and intriguing with each episode. We get to understand why Jang Uk was not taught anything and why he did not develop any skill...

Little Women - Review - Must Watch!

Image
So after all the hype around this series by all the influencers in the KDrama world, I decided to wait for the series to end so I could binge-watch. I tried watching as and when episodes were released with If You Wish Upon Me, but I ended up forgetting many things. So now that the 12 episodes are over, I can happily watch them all in one go. To start with the design and music in the introduction are very intriguing - remind us of the vintage Little Women era, the graphics give off that scent tbh. Little Women is a novel by Louisa May Alcott that was published in 1868. The novel is set during the Civil War and follows the lives of the four March sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. The novel explores the sisters' relationships with each other and with their parents, as well as the challenges they face growing up in a time of great social upheaval. As they navigate the complexities of adulthood and the expectations placed on them as women, the sisters must learn to support each other a...

Her Private Life KDrama - Must watch!

Image
Image from Rakuten Viki Disclaimer: I wrote this as I watched each episode. I started watching this drama a few months ago but at that time, I somehow didn't find it so interesting so left the first episode halfway. But now that time has passed, it does seem interesting. Yes, it is the regular trope but nice in a way, maybe because of my current mindset - fangirling for LJG (if you check, I am on a parallel LJG marathon too) This drama is a romcom about the twin lives of Park Min-young who plays Sung Deok-mi, is a curator by day and a fangirl by night. She's obsessed with Shin-An, an idol, but has set her own limits. Enter Ryan Gold (Kim Jae-wook), a top-class artist who has lost his mojo because of a painting. Their paths meet, and what happens next forms the rest of the story. Park Min-young is perfect for the role of curator - she knows her stuff, has taken an art gallery from zero to the top and as the fan girl she's collecting everything about her favourite idol. She...

Lawless Lawyer - Another fantastic legal drama from Lee Joon-gi!

Image
The series starts off on a very engaging note. I think this was LJG's comeback Kdrama series after he went on a break for a few years. As with all LJG series, this one keeps you hooked. Racy, filled with action, this legal drama will keep you entertained all through.  I am biased toward Lee Joon gi but with each drama of his that I watch, I am growing in awe of his skills. He literally owns each role he plays, whether it is Baek Hee-sung / Do Hyun-soo from Flower of Evil or the Magistrate Kim Eun-ho from Arang & the Magistrate, or Wang-so from Moon Lovers or the effeminate Gong-gil from King and the Clown, he ensures each character stands out differently in our minds and shapes the characters so well with his touch. I can go on and on about his action skills - is there someone who specifically choreographs stunts for LJG?  Who would have even imagined such a stunt scene? I was stunned and excited at the same time. Things are well-paced till episode 5, in ep 6 she finds out...

Short Reviews Of The Kdramas I've Watched - Part 1

Image
Just sharing a few 1-2 line reviews of the dramas I have watched since Jan 2022. If the series was mindblowing, I would have probably written a full blog reviewing it, if it didn't make the cut, it would be here, lol. So here goes... Images from the internet While You Were Sleeping Quite an okay series. I am not a big fan of Lee-Jong Suk. Watched it for Suzy and Jung Hae-In. Legal series, moderately exciting.  Oh My Venus You have So Ji-sub and Shin Min-ah - what more can you ask for! I like how Shin Min-ah takes it in her stride to lose the extra pounds. I believe body shaming is wrong but being overweight and doing nothing about it is also wrong. Feminists, please stay away.  Like all KDramas, there are secrets and past connections. A good one to watch. Crash Landing On You Well, everyone must have already watched this classic. Watch it for the lead pair, beautiful story, the shooting spots are too good. To be honest, it gave me an insight into what it may be like inside Nor...

What I Loved - KDrama

Image
Continuing with my obsession for the Korean Drama series, let me share what I watched and liked among those series since the beginning of January this year. Coffee Prince, Guardian: The Lonely & Great God, StartUp, Nok-Du, Marriage Contract, Something In The Rain, One Spring Night. I started watching a few others Oh My Venus, Touch Your Heart, Hometown Cha-Cha, Love ft Marriage & Divorce but left them halfway because the first episode did not grab my attention like the others did. Maybe I will get back to these some other day.  So  Coffee Prince  was hilarious, tear-jerky, I also found the male lead, Gong Yoo's character to be very a male chauvinist and rough. There seemed to be shades of narcissism but maybe I am wrong. The female lead was very cute and shown to be extremely hardworking. I watched it for her and slowly started liking the male lead too.  That took me to  Guardian  aka Goblin series.  While the premise can be cliched, it was ref...

K-Drama - My New Addiction

Image
Photo by  Yuri Yuhara  from  Pexels                                                 Sharing this image here because these cherry blossoms keep appearing in every KDrama that I have seen. I came across this genre of TV/web series about 2 years back in a mommies group on Facebook. I had fleetingly watched some series on NBK during my stay in Malaysia but it wasn't so appealing. I just noted down the popular series names to check out later. So sometime in 2019, I watched the first of many - What's Wrong With Secretary Kim? I found it to be mildly funny, moderately entertaining and the words Appa/Amma (for Father/Mother) seemed to catch my attention because those are words we Tamilians also use to address our parents.  The show however did not catch my fantasy and I did not watch another one for the next 2 years. Come January 2022, I decided to gi...
