Alchemy of Souls S1&S2 - Must Must Watch - Review!

Image
Well, one of the best series of 2022 - lots of magic and action. It took me a while, at least till episode 4 of S1 to understand who each of the names corresponded to, what alchemy of souls meant, why someone does it, what or who mages are, and all that jazz. Till the 4th episode, things go slow but once you start understanding things, there's no looking back. Jang Uk played by Lee Jae-wook is fantastic, he is the black sheep in the family and has no powers or skills but with the help of his maid Mu Deok-i, he goes on a quick learner mode and picks up most of the skills that take years to master. He is also lucky in many ways and seems like the stars are aligning to help him out. Loved the chemistry between all the stars, Mu Deok-i played by Jung So-min whom I first saw in Because It Is My First Life, is pretty and smart as ever. The story gets interesting and intriguing with each episode. We get to understand why Jang Uk was not taught anything and why he did not develop any skill...

Eve - To Watch or Not To Watch - Review

Image
I watched Eve after I saw Seo hye in Lawless Lawyer . I was shocked to see how much she had lost weight, she was all so pale in the entire series. I feel she had to lose weight to resemble a girl in her 20s. But believe me, she was so fragile. I couldn't bear seeing her. While she does a fantabulous job with her acting, she can jump from being the coy Sun Bin to the menacing La El in seconds, her skinniness does keep troubling me. I really hope she is alright healthwise. Coming to the story, a revenge drama, can get gory and scary, keeps you startled for most part (at least I was), disgusted by the villains for their actions. How greed and power once again make people do things that are inhuman. How one man's greed for power and money can make him destroy an entire family and this man doesn't stop at hurting others, he hurts his own people. How growing up in such a situation can make a child also a devil. Actors did a fantastic job getting into the skin of the characters. A...

The Veil - Underrated Action Thriller KDrama - Review

Image
I had finished One dollar lawyer - a feel-good, funny, and warm legal series and was impressed by Namkoong Min's acting. The way he smiled, frowned, laughed, and walked, so like all fangirls, I googled him, and wow. The wonder of wonders, he is a multi-talented personality! 2021's The Veil came up in the search and when I read the reviews I had to watch it. Trigger warning - this series has a lot (I mean a lottt) of blood, violence, and gore, so please use your discretion to watch. The opening scene itself turned my insides so much that I decided to drop the series. Watched a little bit of Little Women again and then came back to this series once again. Every episode in this series has a mind-blowing beginning and closing scenes. When you think, oh god this must be it for Namkoong Min, he just surprises you, my goodness, out of this world experience, you are left with your mouth open - like what just hit me! Every single episode is packed with action, I thought Again My Life ...

One dollar lawyer - Loved The Fantastic Ever-Smiling Lawyer - Review

Image
Didn't hear too much about this series on social media but decided to give it a shot for 2 reasons 1. Is a legal drama 2. Has only 12 episodes. Until the 8th episode, we are still trying to figure out who Cheon Jihun is and why he does what he does. He comes across as a funny, silly lawyer who charges only 1000 won as legal fees. But we also see him wear fancy clothes and goggles at any part of the day. Then we realize how he was and how he changed himself to be. In the past, he is seen to be as less emotive and doesn't show his emotions at all. He hardly smiles at people, doesn't mix too much, generally, a socially awkward kind of person. But he warms up to a fellow lawyer slowly. I really loved how he finally grieved the passing of his then-girlfriend and how he takes up her dream as his. Cheon Jihun - I've never seen his dramas or movies but what a guy. Looks very plain and has no special stuff (on the exterior) but what acting he can do! I kind of like his walking s...

My Roommate is a Gumiho - Full on crushing on the lead pair - Here's Why - Review

Image
Hye-ri coveted my heart (in a nice way) in Reply 1988. I was initially very irritated by her Doek-sun character but she grew on me with her silly antics. I loved her dressing sense in that series even though all the boys around her made fun of her. She kind of reminded me of myself in some ways. When I saw one scene of My RoomMate is a Gumiho in an Instagram Reel, I was literally LOL-ing. Yes, in the first episode when she understands who Shin is. When I watched the entire sequence of events that led to that scene I was literally ROTFLing. Just when you think, the series/story is going down the usual path, there comes a twist. You can be assured of your laughs, thanks to Hye-ri's presence in the series. The story might not be new but the way the writer and director have handled it is commendable. It never gets dull anytime as the episodes progress. Unexpected laughs, heart flutters, tears - this is consistent across each episode and I so looked forward to the next one. Hye-ri won m...

Her Private Life KDrama - Must watch!

Image
Image from Rakuten Viki Disclaimer: I wrote this as I watched each episode. I started watching this drama a few months ago but at that time, I somehow didn't find it so interesting so left the first episode halfway. But now that time has passed, it does seem interesting. Yes, it is the regular trope but nice in a way, maybe because of my current mindset - fangirling for LJG (if you check, I am on a parallel LJG marathon too) This drama is a romcom about the twin lives of Park Min-young who plays Sung Deok-mi, is a curator by day and a fangirl by night. She's obsessed with Shin-An, an idol, but has set her own limits. Enter Ryan Gold (Kim Jae-wook), a top-class artist who has lost his mojo because of a painting. Their paths meet, and what happens next forms the rest of the story. Park Min-young is perfect for the role of curator - she knows her stuff, has taken an art gallery from zero to the top and as the fan girl she's collecting everything about her favourite idol. She...

Lawless Lawyer - Another fantastic legal drama from Lee Joon-gi!

Image
The series starts off on a very engaging note. I think this was LJG's comeback Kdrama series after he went on a break for a few years. As with all LJG series, this one keeps you hooked. Racy, filled with action, this legal drama will keep you entertained all through.  I am biased toward Lee Joon gi but with each drama of his that I watch, I am growing in awe of his skills. He literally owns each role he plays, whether it is Baek Hee-sung / Do Hyun-soo from Flower of Evil or the Magistrate Kim Eun-ho from Arang & the Magistrate, or Wang-so from Moon Lovers or the effeminate Gong-gil from King and the Clown, he ensures each character stands out differently in our minds and shapes the characters so well with his touch. I can go on and on about his action skills - is there someone who specifically choreographs stunts for LJG?  Who would have even imagined such a stunt scene? I was stunned and excited at the same time. Things are well-paced till episode 5, in ep 6 she finds out...

Good Job - Just short of being a bad job

Image
Good job series starts well but soon loses steam. Hero has athletic abilities and is a chaebol, while the heroine has super-vision. Add to this mix a tech-savvy lawyer and his interest who has a good presence of mind.  What starts as a search for il woo's mother's killers somehow loses track of the original high-paced start. They could have tightened the script a little and avoided the romance part too. Why can't two ppl just be partners/friends on a mission, why does everyone have to fall in love, ugh!  Il-woo's acting is the usual that he delivers - the best. His smile and style do stand out, and as his fan, I am biased. The comedy is good, slapstick most of the time but it kind of keeps the story afloat at times. The chemistry between il woo and the lawyer friend is good entertainment. The second pair love story takes up airtime which I thought was unnecessary.  They claim to be good at disguise but what they wear or who they pretend to be doesn't really show, th...

Arang and the magistrate - Lee Joon Gi & Shin Min Ah Shine.

Image
Arang and the magistrate is an underrated Kdrama that literally no one recommends. My LJG marathon continues with this series. Shin Min-ah who plays Arang the ghost, makes for a lovely pair for Eun ho, the magistrate played by LJG.  The story is pretty fast-paced and hilarious for the most part while also keeping you hooked till the end and as the episode ends you're left wanting more. LJG in a comedy/action/romance role makes watching this series worthwhile. I noticed that the old man who plays Lord Choi is one actor I like. The son of Lord Choi turns out to be the "My Shy Boss" lead and also the Jade emperor is so cute. Oh, what a lovely cast. I am floored.  The son of Lord Choi wears robes that every Indian woman will be jealous of ... I love the colour combinations and the patterns he gets to wear, in fact, we Indian women, especially from the Southern part of the country have sarees in those combinations 😁 From the 6th episode or so, the story starts to drag a bit. ...

It's Beautiful Now - Not All That Beautiful, But Fairly Enjoyable!

Image
Has Spoilers, read at your own risk! Image from Google The description said family drama and it reminded me of What Happens To My Family KDrama series. The story maintains quite a good pace till about the 20-25th episode after which it starts lagging. The storyline is very predictable but it is those real-life moments that are recreated that make you want to continue watching.  This is the story of Grandfather Lee who is looking for his long-lost daughter and adopts a son. He does a fine job of bringing up this adopted son, Lee Min Ho, has a doting daughter-in-law and 3 handsome grandsons. The eldest son is nearing 40 but hasn't gotten married yet so the in-laws and friends of the daughter-in-law Kyung Ae keep taunting her for not being serious about getting her sons married. Thus starts the marriage project.  So most of the first half of the series goes into how the 3 boys meet their better halves, how one tries to con the parents for the prize which they announce as a house...

Flower Of Evil - Why You Must Watch This MindBlowing Drama

Image
Source: Internet I don't know where to start... just everything about this KDrama is literally the best you would have ever seen. Be it the story, the characters, the actors, or the story development, I am still at a loss for words and reeling from the awe that I am having for Lee Joon Gi.  The man is literally from some other planet.  There may be spoilers in this post but please bear with me, I will have to spill something to write what I felt about the series. Flower of Evil is now at the top of my list of best KDramas I've ever watched. So far it was a mix of reactions but this one takes the cake. I binge-watched this series over 3-4 days and I can imagine how people must have felt at the end of Episode 15 which was the best episode of all.  Let's break down the characters I loved - one by one. Do Hyun-soo                                         ...
