Like always, a few actors leave an impression on you so much that you go on a spiral watching their every Kdrama or movie. And in the same fashion, I stumbled upon this movie of Shin Seung-ho who played the adorable crown prince of Daeho in Alchemy of Souls 1 & 2.
I wondered how this film would be since it was about a wrestler with Shin Seung-ho playing a wrestler Kang Woo-ram who quits the sport after his coach passes away suddenly. There was something very endearing about this movie that keeps you hooked on till the very end. How that double Patty that he encounters by chance becomes the central theme that connects him to the FL Lee Hyun-ji played by Irene forms the story. It is pretty slow, like most Korean films, very much like our lives, but those small details in the mundane is what is brought out very beautifully. Every Korean movie does that, just that not every film can be watched and stomached by the general audience. The secret to film making one has to learn from the Japanese and the Koreans. Masters at it!
I watched King and clown my first Korean film, and I was floored to watch LJG in such a fantabulous role. I was floored. A movie buff I follow on Instagram suggested Old boys and Decision to leave.
Both left me speechless. Each one is a different genre but my brain couldn't understand how someone could make such quality films, I don't see much of Indian cinema but some are good and some are inspired by Korean cinema, and now I know why.
Shin Seung-ho looks fabulous in this film, with muscles, six-pack, and all. He is shown to have a great appetite all through the movie and he does it perfectly. Yes, I have seen wrestlers in India, who have such humungous appetites, they need energy and strength to pin down their opponent in the ring after all.
This scene about eating everything served else we will get to eat that in hell is so funny, good idea to try out with picky eaters.
Reviews indicated a very heartwarming tale of friendship and I thought why not. Sometimes you don't want to watch the trope of boy meets girl, they fall in love sequence. Why can't 2 people just be friends and be each other's inspiration?
This scene where 2 strangers or rather acquaintances promise each other to achieve what they want is also cute. I love how Koreans promise each other, the pinky swear with "stamp".
Do they keep their promise, what happens to Kang Woo-ram's career, and does Lee Hyun-ji become a news reporter is for us to wait and watch.
