Reborn Rich - Best Series of 2022 - Must Watch - Review!
Hands down this is 2022's best series, in fact, Reborn Rich will be on the top 10 list of best Kdrama ever.
I began watching "Youngest son of the conglomerate" aka Reborn rich after reading a few chapters of the web novel it is originally based on. I noticed that the web novel didn't delve too deep into details. The writer of the series has done a very neat job with the narration and character building and has made it very captivating till the end. This is probably the second rebirth-themed series I am watching in 2022 after Again My Life. Yes, Goblin also had a rebirth theme but not exactly like this.
Slick series, multilayered characters surrounding the theme of corruption, revenge, and power politics within a conglomerate.
The main lead fits the character to the T. Mind-blowing script, awesome characterisation, amazing actors, screenplay, and direction is top notch. Trust me, you can watch this one over and over again. The audience is left guessing until the end, every minute is engrossing.
Hats off to the cast and crew. My favourite characters were Hyun woo/Jin Do jun and harabuji Jin Yang cheol, chairman of Soon Yang conglomerate. The grandfather is a ruthless businessman, sharp, and shrewd and you can see what a real one looks and feels like. Lee Sung-min has literally lived the role, sparkling performance, I'd say.
Do jun is smart, righteous to some extent but orchestrates his plan brilliantly. I like how he chooses his scripts, intelligent fella!
While there are a lot of characters since this is a conglomerate-based series, the episodes pretty much revolve around grandfather and grandson. The other family members, the scheming uncles, and aunt, the cousin who feels his grandpa wronged him, the sister-in-law who wanted to crack a better deal with Do jun but had to settle for the other grandson, and not to forget the grandmother, her daughters-in-law - get only a fairly lesser share of screen time compared to the 2.
Playing the astute Do jun, Song Joong-ki doesn't go over the top, stays true to his role, and is smooth throughout - whether he plays HW or Do jun.
There were some really nice quotes that we come across in this series, mostly surrounding money and power. Some that left me wondering were:
Revenge isn't for those who have been wronged. Only those with power can take revenge.
Life isn't fair to all, in the end, money is what makes the world turn.
I think these are some great points. We all fight various battles, some against the system too and many a time we give up - the main reason would be because as laymen, we are powerless because we do not have the kind of money or influence the system has.
The female lead, Shin Hyun-bin, as the prosecutor or Soon Yang's Grim Reaper as they call her, is great too. She comes across as a righteous prosecutor and as we get to know more about the conglomerate, we understand why she is referred to as the Grim Reaper. Some of her scenes with her superior are great too, I loved how she fights with him to punish the offender instead of getting the victims to forgive and reconcile. This video resonated a lot personally.
Overall, it was a reflection of how privilege can change the way you operate and if you understand that you have the benefit of the privilege of money and do what you can to help the underprivileged, it would create a great society.
